CYBORGY — an exhibition by artist Alek Borisov, curated by Maksim Subota.
The exhibition Cyborgy is dedicated to overcoming the boundaries of human nature through new technologies. The transformation of the body and consciousness through their fusion with a digital substance is akin to the medieval alchemists’ search for the Philosopher’s Stone. The figures in the paintings, as if woven from golden cybernetic dust, appear in scenes of an imaginary orgy of transformation.
The works are based on photographs of the sculptures of the Golden Cascade in Peterhof. Using a method similar to the technique of pointillism, the artist redraws the original image pixel by pixel, transforming it into an artifact of computer graphics. Its dispersed, dispersive texture emphasizes the absence of clear boundaries between figure and background, character and its surroundings.
